Wednesday 2 November 2016, 7:00PM
All Souls’ Day Requiem Mass

As the year comes to a close, the Church sets aside this holy time to remember the dead. It gives us a special opportunity to come together to share the Eucharist with all who mourn the loss of a loved one. We remember; we celebrate; we give thanks; we pray.

We encourage all who are interested in this prayerful and loving service, whether in memory of a friend, a loved one, a member of your family, someone who died over the past year or long ago, or merely to acknowledge the death which awaits us all, to join us. Holy Trinity Choir will sing Faure’s Requiem.

Should you wish us to remember someone by name, please be sure to sign the sheet which will be located on the Welcome Desk from Sunday 30 October.

One Year On

A year has passed since Alan Kurdi, a three-year-old Syrian boy, drowned on a Turkish beach. The photographs of his lifeless body brought the size and scale of the refugee crisis in Europe to public attention. Our parish formed a Refugee Crisis Response Group to shape our preparations for what we expected to be the imminent arrival in London of Syrian refugees.

The journey over the past year has been different from that which was anticipated but, along with so many other churches and organizations, we continue to work in a number of ways to engage with and understand what is happening and, in some small way, bring hope and relief to the desperate.

As the Bishop of London has said: "We are only at the beginning of a global refugee crisis. It is not just a question of responding to the current wave of displaced people entering the European Union but devising long-term strategies for huge population movements not confined to the Middle East. The immensity of the crisis should not, however, immobilise us."

This seems an important moment to reflect on how we have responded so far and what we yet need to do and 'One year on' - on Saturday 5 November from 10am-1pm at Holy Trinity, Sloane Street - seeks to enable us to do just this. The keynote address will be given by Canon Malcolm Bradshaw, Senior Anglican Chaplain in Athens, who will give a firsthand account of life in the detention centres in Greece.

We have invited every parish in the Kensington and Chelsea Deaneries to join us in order that Canon Bradshaw can reach the widest possible audience and that churches can share together what they are doing and what they are planning and encourage each other in the service of the poor.

Please come and be part of the conversation.
